With the aim of implementing import substitution programs, ISPsystem and RED SOFT have entered into a technology partnership that involved product testing. The developers have confirmed technical compatibility of VMmanager, a platform for virtual infrastructure management, and DCImanager, a platform for accounting and management of physical infrastructure, with the domestic operating system RED OS.
RED OS is a Russian Linux family operating system for servers and workstations, that provides a universal environment for application software. The product is certified by the FSTEC of Russia (№4060 of 12.01.2019), that confirms its compliance with information security requirements and allows its use in government information systems. RED OS is registered in the Unified Register of Russian Software and Databases of the Ministry of Communications of Russia (No.3751).
VMmanager allows to deploy a virtual infrastructure based on QEMU/KVM and the LXD/LXC containerization. It monitors resources status and informs the administrator about errors. It has a built-in integration with Grafana, a tool for visualizing metrics. VMmanager also provides tools for creating backups of virtual machines and the platform itself, which ensures overall system fault tolerance. The solution supports distributed storage Ceph and high availability, automates service delivery to customers in the SaaS model and allows the end user to manage virtual networks independently of the physical network (SDN).
DCImanager allows to manage and account for equipment in a single web interface, monitor rack occupancy, configure networks, quickly restore infrastructure after failures, monitor equipment workload, manage the power of servers, switches, PDUs: turn them on and off, keep records of connections, monitor power consumption and network load. The product helps optimize the use of computing capacity, DCImanager provides unit-level information about the location of each server and switch. You can also see the hardware configuration: the amount of RAM, the number of hard disks, and memory parameters. It allows to increase IT department's efficiency and flexibly transform the infrastructure in accordance with your business needs. Moreover, DCImanager delimits access levels to the IT infrastructure and logs user actions. This ensures system security.
"The need to create a sanction-resistant IT environment poses a serious challenge to domestic vendors: increasing product competitiveness and creating ready-to-implement integrated solutions with these products. The development of the RED OS ecosystem through compatibility with a wide range of products provides customers with more opportunities for import substitution", Rustam Rustamov, Deputy RED SOFT CEO, commented.
"The partnership with one of the leaders in the Russian operating systems market will make it possible to provide higher quality application-level software solutions for IT infrastructure owners. In particular, it is now possible to build a cloud infrastructure using software solutions from the register of domestic software: a domestic operating system RED OS with KVM virtualization plus a domestic VMmanager orchestrator "on board". Previously, a similar-level solution could only be obtained using the entire stack of imported VMware technologies - ESXi, vCenter, vCloud Director, vSAN and NSX. But thanks to such partnerships, IT import substitution in Russia is becoming a reality", - Alexander Grishin, the owner of VMmanager product, ISPsystem, comments.
